
Choose Your Award Level.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award has three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each builds on the last, and you can start at any level that matches your age and experience.
Minimum age 14, or in Year 9
Approximately 3–6 months
Award Sections
- Physical Recreation: 3 months minimum
- Skill: 3 months minimum
- Voluntary Service: 3 months minimum
One of your three sections must be extended to 6 months to demonstrate meaningful development.
Adventurous Journey
3 days, 2 nights
Day 1 is the practice journey. The remaining 2 days form the qualifying journey.
Expedition paid separately once enrolled.
Minimum age 15 (or 14 if Bronze is complete)
Approximately 6–12 months
Award Sections
- Physical Recreation: 6 months (3 months if Bronze done)
- Skill: 6 months (3 months if Bronze done)
- Voluntary Service: 6 months (3 months if Bronze done)
If you've completed Bronze, one section must be 6 months and the other two 3 months each.
Adventurous Journey
Practice Journey: 3 days, 2 nights
Qualifying Journey: 3 days, 2 nights
Or 6 days, 5 nights as a combined program.

Approximately 12–18 months
Award Sections
- Physical Recreation: 6–12 months
- Skill: 6–12 months
- Voluntary Service: 6–12 months
One section must be at least 12 months. All others must be a minimum of 6 months.
Adventurous Journey
Practice Journey: 4 days, 3 nights
Qualifying Journey: 4 days, 3 nights
Or 8 days, 7 nights as a combined program.
Residential Project
Residential Project: 5 days and 4 nights away with a group you don't already know.
